Open Space

Open Space

Open Space is a “self-organising process” in which participants create and manage their own agenda of parallel working sessions around a central theme of strategic importance. Participants become each other’s teachers and leaders to explore solutions, determine action and drive change. Open Space enables exceptional levels of engagement because delegates are not simply being told what they should do; they are being invited to participate actively in the pursuit of a vision for change. Over the last 20+ years Open Space has been used across a wide range of organisations for diverse objectives including strategic direction setting, envisioning future, conflict resolution, moral building, organisational transformation, ideas generation.

Open Space Outcomes

  • Empathy, respectful networks and mutual purpose built between diverse stakeholders
  • The raising of issues that are most important and relevant to the participants
  • Inspired organisations, bringing out the best in people by providing a practical process that ignites their innate will to make a difference
  • Issues raised being addressed by those participants most qualified and capable of getting something done on each of them
  • Robust action plans generally prioritised and implemented a great deal faster than expert- or management-driven designs [dependant on complexity of issue/task and time made available
